What we do

We aim to inspire and empower a community of young changemakers eager to make a positive impact on the world. We provide international student scholarships, operate youth and community development programs, and offer global service and education trips to communities in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Ghana, India and Vietnam.

Dream Volunteers is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with a commitment to giving back through youth and community development. Our unique operational model allows us to leverage operational efficiencies from our service trips business to support our charitable endeavors providing scholarships and development programming. 100% of charitable contributions are invested directly in scholarships and the communities we support.

Our story

Dream Volunteers was formed in 2007 by Executive Director Brian Buntz, a former Peace Corps Volunteer and classroom teacher, and Eric Lochtefeld, a Bay Area entrepreneur. It is a 501(c)(3) public charity.

DV began by providing financial support to promising teens in Guatemala and India. The Redwood City, California Chapter of DV was launched in 2010 with 14 brave, young pioneers from Summit Preparatory and Everest Public High School.  These students, like those on scholarship in India and Guatemala, expressed such a strong desire to learn and lead and to “do good in the world.” The vision grew to provide the resources and the opportunities for aspiring young people all over teh globe to become the changemakers they aspired to be.

Today,Dream Volunteers has grown to now work with more than 100 partner schools throughout the US and Canada. Today, thousands of young changemakers travel to destinations as far-reaching as the Costa Rican mountain highlands and the desert city of Jaipur. Volunteers come from schools and universities in the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia. Students and families work and collaborate together, immersing in local cultures and communities in our primary destinations. And international scholars benefit from Dream Volunteers schools, scholarships, and development projects.

Teens & young adults

Our programs offer motivated young people challenging opportunities for personal growth and discovery. We design our programs for students in middle school, high school, and college. They can participate as a group or on their own in our school year, school break, summer, and gap year programs.

At Dream Volunteers, our goal is to provide an educational experience that is transformative for you and your students. That’s why we partner with you from start to finish to create customized trip experiences, collaborate on program development that connects to classroom teachings, and provide all the operations support and security you need for peace of mind. By the end of your trip, you and your students will walk away with new perspectives, discoveries, and growth that will shift your outlook on learning, life, and the world.

… but don’t take our word for it, see what others have to say.

The Experience

In the community

Since the very beginning, our commitment has been to the communities we support. We have deep long-standing relationships with the children and families in these communities and a vested interest in their success. We  believe strongly in the model of building the solutions and the changemakers from within and our programs encompass a wide array of educational and development initiatives in the schools, community centers, and fields and farms that provide for these communities.

Let’s talk… We’d love to find a way to collaborate!
