Dreamer of the Year
George John (CEO - Rocket Fuel)
Coming from humble roots in Texas, George learned early the value of hard work and the direct correlation between maximum effort and exceptional results. He applied himself in high school, earned scholarships and financial aid for Stanford, and created his future. As he has lifted himself up and succeeded, he has shared that success with those around him and lifted up our entire community in the process.
George John is CEO of Rocket Fuel Inc., a highly successful advertising technology company. In 2013, George led Rocket Fuel through its initial public offering. Even more impressive, though, was how he led his company through a year of tremendous community impact. Rocket Fuel's contributions to Redwood City have ranged from financial and human capital contributions to local shelters, youth sports organizations, the Fresh Takes Film Festival, Sheriff's Activities League, the Sequoia Awards Scholarship Program, and much more. This is a Silicon Valley company leading the tech industry in "Giving Back" to the community. It looks outside its office doors to its neighbors, lending support in numerous ways, and George has enabled that.
Prior to Rocket Fuel, George led groups at IBM, E.piphany, Salesforce.com, Yahoo and NASA. As a kid, George was overly influenced by "Star Trek," which led to a short-lived interest in model rocketry and a lifelong interest in Artificial Intelligence. George earned BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Computer Science from Stanford.
